Well, 2010 is over and done with, and quite frankly I'm really glad it's gone. It's been a really horrible year chez Blaize, and while some of that horribleness is going to overlap into 2011, I am determined this year will be much, much better.
Most of the horror of 2010 was due to the ongoing work happening in, on and around our building and our flat. It began in March and was supposed to be finished by October at the latest. And then it was definitely going to be done by Christmas. And now, we have no idea when it will end, if ever. My current bet is on May. Which is not a pleasant thought.
And then December was the month from Hades. Short version goes thusly: "oh it's a bit nippy isn't it?", internet disappears, comes back, disappears again, continues to do this dance every now and again to keep us on our toes, "oh wow snow!", "bloody hell, go away snow", Mister Blaize catches a very evil flu, pipe bursts into our kitchen, I catch the flu of doom, "more snow?", postal chaos, transport chaos, more bloody snow, the blessed relief of Christmas with the whole family, back home to find another pipe has burst, no cold running water for three days, hogmanay. And that genuinely is the short version.
But through the whole of last year, one of the main things that kept me going was how amazing fandom can be. You guys were awesome as always, and the explosion of Inception fandom was spectacularly unexpected and massively entertaining. And it taught me that I really should be lurking less and getting involved more.
So, if I did New Year's Resolutions (which, in theory, I don't) that would be mine - participate more in fandom. More commenting, more picspams, more meta, more joining in discussions, actually posting my creations to crafting comms like I've been meaning to, maybe even more fic. Just more.
In closing, ICICLES OF DOOM!

Date: 2011-01-06 05:26 am (UTC)2010 really was a challenging year all around. I hope 2011 is a vast improvement for you!
I have the same resolution about fandom. I'm Master Lurker and I want to connect more because it's such a fun fandom and I feel like I miss out on a lot by lurking. And then there will new Tom Hardy movies this year, so we can flail all over again. :D

Date: 2011-01-07 04:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, 2010 was not one of my favourites. Maybe 2011 will start giving us all the exciting future stuff we were meant to have by now!
I've spent most of my internet life lurking away. The reignition of Star Trek fandom starting tempting me slowly out of hiding, and then the insanity of Inception really got me involved more and it is so much more fun. It's kinda scary sometimes for a silly shy thing like me, but it really has been worth it.
And I'm so delighted that there will be so many new T Hard movies coming out, and so many more fangirls to flail with. 2011 will be the year of Tom Hardy picspams! It shall be glorious!

Date: 2011-01-07 05:02 pm (UTC)We should form a lurkers united group and help each other get out there into the madness more!

Date: 2011-01-08 04:27 pm (UTC)That would be amazing. The problem with an all-lurkers group is that no one would want to post anything. xD
