Have joined the Dreamwidth ranks and just want to test out the cross posting function. I'm [personal profile] anonymityblaize at DW - feel free to add me there, but I think LJ will remain my main internet home as long as it can still manage to function somewhat normally.

A few random links to see how well this all works.

Firstly, anyone who hasn't already should check out [livejournal.com profile] honorh 's story of her time in Japan during (and after) the tsunami, and also her follow up post here. It's an incredibly moving and well-told piece of writing, and an uplifting reminder of how good and kind human beings can be. I have to admit I got quite teary at a few bits.

Secondly (abrupt change of tone is starting to be a habit), I got featured in another lovely etsy treasury, this time a Firefly themed one (as always, you can check it out here), but far more important is the fact than it alerted me to the amazing work of pungopungo who makes some Lady Gaga inspired items but also this amazing reproduction of Zoe's leather vest:

If only I had the money to spare I would buy one of those in a heartbeat. So awesome.

And thirdly, here is a random fact: Pineapple is a source of bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins. Thus, pineapple is literally a flesh-eating fruit. (This is why you might get a tingly feeling on your lips and tongue after eating a lot of pineapple.)

Please, for the love of God, the flying spaghetti monster, and all that is good in this world, could someone please use this in a Hawaii Five-0 fic? It feels like just the kind of thing Danny could rant about for hours.

That's why they slice out the core of a pineapple- not only is it tough and stringy, but it has the highest concentration of digestive enzymes in the fruit.

:D

Oh my, that tsunami account. Thank you for sharing that.

Now I'm always going to think of that when I eat pineapple. :)

It really is an amazing article. And so great to read a first person account, rather than something focussing on the "big picture" like most of the media have.

And that pineapple thing will amuse me for quite some time. I love random facts!
