Some updates on the state of me!

Building stress: Still stressful, but inching towards completion every day, so my state of mind is distinctly better than it was. Given that the work was meant to be completed in October last year it would be quite good for my emotional well-being if it was finished before October of this year, however.

Telly stuff: Caught up on Leverage in a massive splurge and it was glorious! I don't feel like the show ever dipped in quality or anything, but this season has been really fantastic. They've made me cry at three separate episodes this year and I don't think Leverage has ever made me cry before. All the Parker and Hardison stuff is making me flail around like a flaily thing, as has the Nate and Sophie stuff but for different reasons, and Eliot is still the most adorable killing machine ever. And everyone wants to hug Hardison all the time. As well they should.

Went to see a screening of the first episode of series 2 of The Killing (the Danish version, not the AMC remake) and a Q&A with Sofie Gråbøl and Piv Bernth hosted by Emma Kennedy. It was, unsurprisingly, amazeballs. Going to be a very annoying wait until November for more episodes. Sofie Gråbøl is so ridiculously gorgeous in person, and very funny. And Emma Kennedy is every bit the Forbrydelsen fangirl that she seemed on twitter (the pronunciation was explained to the audience as "Ferb-noise of person puking-son".). And in series two Sarah Lund has a new jumper. It's very exciting.

Cross stitch o' doom progress: Also very exciting. So exciting in fact that I'm putting the pics under a cut from now on until it's done. Which might still be ages away, but it's coming along very nicely. Am still rather suspicious about that.

I have returned! Distinctly less grumpy. How can I have any grump whatsoever when I managed to spend time at the world's most awesome pub, which has a view like this on a sunny day?

photo

The answer is that I cannot have any grump. None at all. I can still have chaos and mayhem and be totally not caught up on life in general, but I've survived this long and it really, actually, truly, honestly isn't going to be much longer until the building work is finished and everything can get back to normal. *crosses fingers*

So. Did I miss anything exciting while I was away? I had very little internet so I've been clicking "previous 20" like a mad thing for a while now.

Caught up on some telly while I was away - Sirens was fab (thank you to the people squeeing about it, I'd probably have missed it otherwise) and I'm now slightly in love with Kayvan Novak, and White Collar continues on its quest to make me dislike Mozzie and piss me off in general. Nice potential for Tim Dekay to be a gorgeous whirlwind of righteous rage and fury (and hotness) when it comes back though, so it hasn't entirely driven me away yet.

Got loads of cross stitching done too and I'll post pics soon. This post is very disjointed. Sorry about that. Represents the state of my brain quite well though!

Picspams are forthcoming. General consensus seems to be that I should do them all really (and I've also been incepted with a few more ideas) , but I'll do them in order of popularity, so first up will be HOT WET MEN. Hurrah. Y'all have great taste.

Right, 2011 is officially a bastard. Onto other news...

Don't worry, I have not forgotten about making stuff for Pay It Forward 2011 - [livejournal.com profile] sorrynotsorry and [livejournal.com profile] dahliablueI will be in touch soon, I promise. My etsy shop seems to have a rhythm of nothing-for-ages and then umpty-million-things-at-once and I clearly need to learn better time management skills!

More etsy treasuries here. One of Glasgow based sellers, and one of Firefly/Serenity items.

Which reminds me - has [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek stopped doing Make it Sew posts? Cos I haven't seen one in ages and I've made loads of Trekkie things lately which I really feel like showing off.

Meant to make a post of reactions to things I have seen lately, but as per bloody usual I don't really have the time, so here, have the quick versions:

Fast & Furious 5 - Fast cars, check. Inappropriate sexual tension, check. Fantastic stunts, check. Vin Diesel's sexy voice being all growly and sexy, check. Vin Diesel punching people, check. The Rock punching people, check. 'Splosions, check. Heist-y banter, check. Actual physics of the world totally not adhered to, check. So basically, if you like this franchise, this'll be your favourite one. Also, stay for the credits for a "we totally know we're making a sixth one" scene which gave me much happiness.

Thor - Made me giggle like a loon for most of its running time. Unexpected [character's name redacted for spoilers] was unexpected, but also awesome. Hewsworth was fantastic and hella hot. Idris Elba was ridic badass (and also sporting a sexy growly voice. I seem to have a thing.) And again, stay right to the very end of the credits for a little Avengers tease. I am excite.

Doctor Who - Dear Steven Moffat, please stop trying to break my brain. Love, Me.

Community - Baby episode was fabulous, but my dear deities, the "clip show" episode was quite possibly the most glorious thing an American sitcom has ever produced. I though I was actually going to hyperventilate at one point I was laughing so hard.

Are you still alive, LJ? Cos I really need to take this opportunity to list things what are awesome, because IRL they are decidedly not right now. But I am determined to be full of positivity. Determined, I say!

Awesome Thing #1: Adam and Joe are back in the Big British Castle on my radio! Hurrah! This must be the only radio show in the world where I love the jingles just as much as the actual talking and stuff. Possibly more than the actual talking and stuff.

Awesome Thing #2: Spiral is back on my telly box! Wooooo! Spiral is pretty much what would happen if someone smushed together The Wire and Prime Suspect and then made it in France. Which I'm pretty sure is exactly what they did.

Miniature Awesome Thing #3: I am getting my very disorganized life back in order one tiny thing at a time. Like having all my cross stitching threads carefully ordered. This is a massive victory in a sea of chaos.

threads

Awesome Thing #4: Awesome people [livejournal.com profile] epicycles and [livejournal.com profile] akisilver who won my services in the [livejournal.com profile] help_japan auctions. They are wonderful and I am hopefully making wonderful things for them. Huzzah!

Awesome Accidental Thing #5: I completely-and-utterly-by-accident and totally-not-on-purpose downloaded and mainlined the rest of Hawaii Five-0 but somehow have managed to save the most recent one to tide me over until next week for a new one.  My snobbish telly stance is slipping and I'm just giving in to the fabulously stupid wonderfulness. Joy.

Awesome Thing #6: The Pet Shop Boys are supporting Take That on tour this summer. I repeat, the motherfucking PET SHOP BOYS are bloody well SUPPORTING Take That on tour. I am going to see the Pet Shop Boys AND Take That in one evening. I am dead. Dead from the awesome and also dead from the bizarreness that the Pet Shop Boys are supporting anyone let alone a band at least a decade their junior. But it is going to be awesome. AWESOME!

The word awesome is starting to look weird now. I think I should stop.

Hello, December. You always sneak up on me - are you a ninja?

--

There is too much good telly in the world. When did that happen? How did that happen? There are two unwatched episodes of Chuck sitting on my sky+ box, which is insane. I love Chuck! But there are so many good things that need watching just now. I genuinely think that when I fall in love with a new tv show I am undergoing the exact same chemical reaction as actually falling in love. It's such a rush.

I'm probably not helping myself by rewatching Community right now, but it's just so addictive and it makes me so happy.

And last week's episode of Misfits BLEW. MY. MIND. If you are not watching it, then get on that right away. Damn. I kinda want to post spoilery stuff but I shall refrain for now 'cos I think only a few people on my flist watch. For shame. But have an unspoilery gif anyway.

Oh, Iwan. So adorbs.

I am cold. But I am still stunned at the way Britain just falls apart when it snows. The media act like it's some sort of unheard of occurrence every single time. Madness. But it is very pretty outside. Scaffolding looks a lot less ugly with a dusting of snow and icicles hanging off it.

On the underground the other day I witnessed a part of some stranger's snow related rant. But I wish I knew the whole story.

Have finally made some progress with the cafe press shops. (Has anyone else ever sold stuff through cafe press? Is it just me or is their system a little wonky? Or just convoluted. I keep clicking links and ending up somewhere totally different from where I expected to be.)
